Letter from the Chingford Committee
Welcome to the 10th year of the Chingford NOS Support Group!
We hope that you will join us in celebrating the Group’s success whilst looking back at the developments in osteoporosis care and the vital role of the NOS at our 10th Anniversary meeting in May.
2017 was another busy year for the Committee ladies, who as always worked tirelessly to organise and run a successful programme of five meetings during the year. Two new topics proved very popular with good attendances at the ‘Talking about ourselves’ and ‘Newly Diagnosed’ meetings. We hope to repeat these in the future.
During the past 10 years in our quest for speakers, we have acquired an excellent and diverse network of health professionals, and we continue to maintain our valuable connection with the local osteoporosis team. We are pleased to welcome Dr Simon Donnelly as our new Group Medical Advisor, and we welcome back Stella Scrivener as our NOS Regional Manager.
Working with the NOS, Age UK , GPs and other groups, we hope to see progress in 2018 with the services of Falls Prevention, Fracture Liaison and other osteoporosis related resources in our area.
The programme for 2018 continues with our mission to support and inform those who are living with osteoporosis . Amongst our speakers in July we will be talking about clothing and body image and in September, a Dentist from the Royal London Dental Hospital visits us - all talks relevant to osteoporosis.
Thank you for your support through the past 10 years- it’s great to see so many familiar and, of course, many new faces at the meetings. We look forward to welcoming you back in 2018!
Best wishes from the
Roberta, Tricia, Sheila, Marilyn, Jill, Pam and June
Thursday 6th December, 13:15 - 15:00
Age UK Redbridge
Speaker - Jasbir Jheeta, Falls Prevention Co-ordinator
From our meeting in March our Medical Advisor - Dr Simon Donnelly's message to us was "DO NOT BREAK A HIP"!
As winter will be well under way at this meeting it is timely to remember that hip fractures result in loss of mobility, additional rehabilitation costs and inevitable suffering to individuals and family. We discuss the importance of prevention and awareness.
Chingford & Epping Forest Group news
2018 has begun with two important events- the celebration of our 10th Anniversary and the welcome to a new Medical Advisor.
Firstly we welcomed Dr Simon Donnelly RGC, Consultant Physician- Barts Healthcare who gave a lively and informative presentation on latest drug treatments and research at our March meeting. As always , this is a very popular and valuable meeting for Osteoporosis sufferers , with over 50 attendees – including 10 new members.
In May we celebrated the 10th Anniversary of the Chingford Group and were so pleased to welcome Fiona Rochford, NOS Head of Volunteer Development who gave an enlightening talk on the NOS past and present- very cleverly weaving in the Chingford Group’s history and achievements over the past 10 years. Accompanied by delicious celebration cakes made by our ‘in house’ bakers -Pam and June, it was a truly memorable afternoon!
