What is Osteoporosis? Osteoporosis is a condition in which bones become more porous and fragile, and the risk of fractures increases. In the UK about 1 in 2 women and 1 in 5 men over the age of 50 will break a bone mainly due to osteoporosis. The good news is that it can be managed with a combination of lifestyle changes and appropriate medication. Exercise and diet can help reduce the risk of fractures, control pain and maintain independence.
What we do; We offer people with Osteoporosis and their friends and families opportunities to find out more about the condition, identify ways of managing it and give each other practical support. We hold our meetings in Central Swindon and invite guest speakers to give us talks on relevant topics such as medication, exercise and diet. We also enjoy talks on subjects of general interest and hold occasional social events. We make a small charge for admission to help cover our costs. We have also received financial support from Swindon Borough Council and the Midcounties Co-operative.
