Campaign encourages adults to get more active

Walking briskly for 10 minutes a day can improve our health and well-being, as well as lowering our chances of developing some serious health conditions – that’s why Public Health England’s new One You Active 10 initiative is encouraging more of us to get active.

This new health push is part of PHE’s wider One You campaign, which encourages 40-60 year olds to take a look at their lifestyle choices and consider what changes could be made to help them remain in good health for longer. The campaign’s aim is to double our chances of being healthy at the age of 70 and beyond.

“A brisk ten minute walk can make a huge difference to your health - it gets the heart pumping faster, can make you feel better, more energetic and improve your mood.” says PHE, “Over time, brisk walking can help to lower the risk of serious illnesses like heart disease and type 2 diabetes.”

A new, free app has been released by Public Health England, to help people track their daily activity and work out where they can build more brisk walking into their routine.

PHE’s new campaign has been welcomed by the National Osteoporosis Society. The Charity recently launched its own awareness campaign, A Message to My Younger Self, to help educate the younger generations about the important role their lifestyle when young - including exercise levels - can have on their future bone health.

The A Message to My Younger Self campaign accompanies the launch of a new challenge event for 2017, the 206 Challenge. This fundraising opportunity - also designed to do good for your bones - challenges the public to walk 206 miles this year, either by themselves or split between family and friends.

Why not take on your own 206 Challenge alongside Public Health England’s Active 10, and reach your target by pledging to walk briskly for at least 10 minutes per day?
