Supporter Spotlight: James Steele

27 Sep 2017

Join us as we support James, who is running a half marathon to help raise vital funds for the Charity.

Challenge: Royal Parks Half Marathon

When: 8th October 2017

Where: London (four Royal Parks, including Hyde Park, The Green Park, St James's Park and Kensington Gardens)

Inspiration: James was diagnosed with osteoporosis of the spine in May 2017, due to an overactive thyroid. The diagnosis came as a shock; at 44 years of age, he hadn’t imagined he could be affected by such a condition.

“Awareness of osteoporosis is shockingly low,” says James. “By supporting the work of the National Osteoporosis Society, we can all help to change this and help promote the importance that a healthy lifestyle and diet has on our bone health, to help lower people’s risk of developing this debilitating condition.”

A bit of background: James has been a keen runner for some time, and finds that it not only makes him feel his bones some good, but also helps him cope with back pain.

A semi-professional keyboard player, James has previously supported local charities by performing at numerous fundraising events, although this will be his first sporting fundraising challenge.

“I haven’t previously run for a charity, it has always been something I have done for myself - now I want to give something back.”
